U.S. stocks veer lower in light trading

U.S. stock indexes veered lower in midday trading Thursday as investors sized up earnings from several major banks and new economic data. Energy stocks were down the most as crude oil prices headed lower. Technology companies led the gainers. Trading was light ahead of the long Easter holiday weekend.
