Stocks steady as banks slip, energy firms rise

New York • U.S. stocks are little changed Tuesday as banks trade lower and department stores, apparel retailers and handbag makers slide. Investors are taking a slightly more cautious stance on the health of the U.S. economy after weak car sales in March.
